Dr. CHENG Haoru

Ms. CHENG Haoru, a famous guzheng player in China, has been serving as a guzheng teacher at the Central Conservatory of Music and is the first one in China to achieve a doctorate in guzheng performance. She was the ambassador of Silk Road & Young Dreams, and the gold medal winner of the three highest-level competitions in the Chinese Music World (Golden Bell Award, Wenhua Award, CCTV National Instrumental Music Television Contest). She studied under the esteemed performer, educator, and doctoral supervisor Prof. ZHOU Wang.

As one of the leading figures among the Guzheng players in China, Ms. CHENG successfully played in many of the concert halls of China and the rest of the world and performed guzheng solo concerto concerts in dozens of cities in China. She has toured in Asia, Europe, and North America to conduct exchange performances. As a leading figure of the new generation, she has participated in several key national performances, including the Cultural Gala "The Great Journey" to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Party, the 102nd Anniversary Party Symphony Concert, and played an important role in the APEC meeting, the "New Year Tea Party" of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the 10th Anniversary of the Olympic Games. In 2023, she collaborated with several prominent conductors and top orchestras including the China National Symphony Orchestra, National Theatre Orchestra, China Philharmonic Orchestra, Central Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, and Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra at major events such as the National Theatre's New Year Concert, China Symphony Music Season, Beijing Modern Music Festival, Hangzhou International Music Festival, and Shenzhen International Music Festival. CHENG Haoru has also made appearances in numerous prestigious CCTV galas, including the 2018 Spring Festival Gala, the 2024 and 2017 Lantern Festival Galas, National Day Galas, the Belt and Road Music Concerts, and Classics in Song, leaving a profound impact through her performances.

In recent years, with distinctive and rigorous teaching methods, CHENG Haoru has nurtured many outstanding students who have achieved success in many competitions. Her teaching approach is highly appreciated by Guzheng teachers and practitioners nationwide.

Ms. CHENG has comprehensive techniques and, an enthusiastic and connotative performance style. While mastering the traditional guzheng genre, she has also shown her mastery of modern guzheng works, and the ability to express music and emotional tension, which makes her one of the exemplary representatives among young guzheng performers in China.
