Artistic Director, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra
NIE Bing, male, Han Chinese, born in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province in May 1959, started working in October 1975, a National First-Class Performer (senior title, level II), violinist. Currently holding the positions of the Artistic Director of Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, the Chairman of the SSO Artistic Advisory Board, the Chairman of the 7th Shenzhen Musicians Association, Vice President of China Musicians Association League of China Orchestras and expert of Shenzhen Pilot Demonstration Area.
Mr. NIE started working in October 1975. He was appointed as the concertmaster and conductor of the Harbin Opera House in July 1982. In September 1986, he was transferred to the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and served as the principal of the second violin section. Mr. NIE has worked under the baton of well-known conductors such as Li Delun, Huang Xiaotong, Yan Liangkun, Yao Guanrong, Yuan Fang, Zheng Xiaoying, Zhang Guoyong, Yu Feng, Shao En, Tan Lihua, Herbert Zeper, Rolf Reuter, Shambadal, Massis Fosset, Kermit Poling, Yoshikazu Fukumura, Claus Dieter Gung and many other Chinese and foreign conductors. Among other concert halls, Mr. NIE has performed in many great concert halls around the world which includes Musikverein in Vienna, Berliner Philharmonie in Berlin, Smetana Hall in Prague and Zagreb Concert Hall in the former Yugoslavia. He has toured with the orchestra many times to the United States, Europe, Southeast Asia and in most parts of China including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. His skillful performing technique and in-depth understanding of music have been highly praised and recognized by many music directors, experts, guest conductors and colleagues.
His dedication to teaching is evidenced by the achievements of his students, many of whom have excelled in major orchestras in China while others have been admitted to famous conservatories including the Central Conservatory of Music, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music at the National University of Singapore and the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland.
In terms of art management, he has served as the former President, Vice President, Assistant President, Orchestra Manager of Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and currently serves as the Artistic Director of Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and the Chairman of the SSO Artistic Advisory Board. With rich artistic experiences, he has an in-depth understanding of the development of symphony orchestras, insists on the development of fine performances and attaches importance to talents. Mr. NIE led the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra to perform in the United States, North Korea and countries in Europe which was highly praised by Chinese ambassadors for “winning glory for the country”. Also highly recognized by the ministers of Culture and Tourism that Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra is the main force in promoting China’s cultural exchanges with other countries. The leaders of Shenzhen Municipal Government praised the orchestra for its contributions to the cultural and artistic undertakings in Shenzhen. As a well-trained professional and art management talent, Mr. NIE influences the music industry, music conservatories, media and other fields in China.
