WU Yuxia is a national first-class performer in China. She is a member of Chinese National Academy of Arts, doctoral supervisor, President of China Nationalities Orchestra Society, one of the “Cultural Masters” (also known as “Si Ge Yi Pi” talents) listed by the Publicity Department of the CPC, outstanding performer of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, recipient of special allowance from the State Council, member of the 10th to 12th National Committee for the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, bearer of Red Flag March 8, Vice-President of Chinese Musicians Association Council, the Executive Vice-President of Pipa Society of Chinese Musicians Association Council, former Vice-President and the Principal Pipa Performer of China National Traditional Orchestra. 

WU Yuxia started to learn Pipa when she was little. In 1977, she was enrolled at several prestigious universities including Beijing Dance Academy, Central Conservatory of Music and Peking University.  

As an outstanding performer and music educator, WU Yuxia has published several monographs, albums, and Pipa pieces including monographs and literary criticisms My Pipa Journey (Wo De Pi Pa Xing) and Dance on Fingertips – 38 Pipa Tunes for Practice (Zhi Jian Shang De Wu Dao – Pi Pa Ji Qiao Lian Xi San Shi Ba Shou), My Stage – TouchPoint and Standing Point of a Performer (Wo De Wu Tai –Yi Ge Yan Zou Zhe De Chu Dian Yu Li Dian) and Exploration and Reflection on Liu Dehai’s Pipa Art (Liu De Hai Pi Pa Yi Shu Tan Yuan Yu Si Kao), solo albums Praise For Thousand Years (Qian Qiu Song), Yu Ming Oriental (Yu Ming Dong Fang), Rhythm (Lü Dong), Beautiful Voice (Zhu Luo Yu Pan) and Pipa pieces Willow in the Breeze (Feng Xi Liu), Reflections (Dao Ying), and Sketches (Su Miao), etc. She also premiered concerto, solo and repertoire works including Spring and Autumn (Chun Qiu), Thinking on an Ancient Road (Gu Dao Sui Xiang), Beautiful Music and Dance (Miao Yin Tian Wu), and Tea Song (Cha Ge). Besides, she is the deputy editor-in-chief of Encyclopedia for Chinese Pipa Tunes and the chief editor of You are the Spring

Since the 1980s, WU Yuxia has been a soloist in major art events in the mainland and abroad, and has successfully held hundreds of solo recitals and lectures, works Praise For Thousand Years (Qian Qiu Song), Yu Ming Oriental (Yu Ming Dong Fang) and The Aesthetics and Expression of Art (Yi Shu De Shen Mei Yu Biao Da) has become one of her most favorite works. She performs in a way that has been described as “delicate without exaggeration, passionate but not wild, thoroughly comprehended, with plenty of emotion and distinction, writing a new chapter for Pipa Performance.”
