Conducting Division
The Conducting Division of the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is committed to producing versatile musicians who are not only highly competitive on stage, but also able to devote themselves to public service, social charity, and school aesthetic education. Students are accepted to an all-round platform for practice where the theories become truly pronounced.
As for the constitution of teachers, the current ratio of teacher-student defines at 1:0.86, and the proportion of doctors reaches 50%, which is still developing in quantity and quality. All of them have had long-term study and work experience abroad, from places including Yale University, Juilliard School, Peabody Conservatory, Berlin University of Arts, Berlin School of Music, Weimar Liszt Conservatory, etc. The teachers branch out for multiple functions, to fulfill a high-quality academic requirement, and customize individual teaching plans, aiming to infuse the young conductors with intact musicality and humanities.
At present, three levels of degree are set or planned according to their purposes. For undergraduate students, the study of liberal arts is regarded as a core, with supplements of general music training; The master’s program features professionalism and skills for career development; The doctoral degree program exclusively cultivates those accomplished musicians who also wish to conduct on the podium.
On a regular basis, prestigious conductors at home and abroad are invited to hold lectures and master classes, such as the “Meet the Maestro” series academic seminars, to help enrich students' artistic scope. The diversified programs and teaching methods of the Conducting Division will surely draw attraction from worldwide eminent artists, which beneficially support each other and co-construct the cultural prospect of Shenzhen and across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
