Division of Strings, Wind, Brass and Percussion
The Division of Strings, Wind, Brass, and Percussion of the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen integrates performance, teaching, and research. The school has established several student ensembles including a student symphony orchestra and chamber groups. Currently, the division offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in all strings, wind, brass, and percussion major including violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, harp, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, french horn, trombone, tuba, trumpet, and percussion. The division aims to develop multiple talents with high-level performance skills. Career pathways include, but are not limited to solo performance, chamber ensemble, and orchestral. In terms of activities, the division regularly invites internationally and nationally renowned artists to visit, as well as hold master classes and concerts to enrich students' learning in multiple ways.
The teaching faculty of the Division offers a wide range of expertise and a comprehensive curriculum. The Division consists of many well-known artists, such as percussionist, Professor Le YU; violinist, Professor YAO Jue; violinist, Adjunct Professor Vera TSU Weiling; hornist, Associate Professor Robert FANT; violinist, Assistant Professor Stanislav Pronin; hornist, Associate Professor (Teaching) Tianxia WU; violinist, Assistant Professor (Teaching) Shucong HE; violinist, Assistant Professor (Teaching) Yoon Jung YANG; clarinetist, Assistant Professor (Teaching) YI Cheng; saxphonist, Assistant Professor (Teaching) Tak-Chiu WONG; and Lecturer, violinist ZHANG Jingye, violist Andrew LING, cellist Yiqiu CHEN, cellist Jiapeng NIE, double bassist XUE Yu, harpist Joel von Lerber, flutist Qi YAN, flutist YUAN Long, oboist Sai KAI, bassoonist Benjamin Moermond, trombonist Kevin Thompson, trumpeter Robert Smith, tubaist Paul Luxenberg, percussionist LIU Heng, collaborative piano Xiaoya LIU, collaborative piano Ming ZHAO, collaborative piano ZHANG Chen, and so on. Our faculty members are often invited to be on the jury for many international and national competitions and festivals.
Currently, the division is still searching for relevant faculties aiming to continue building up an international and diversified faculty team. The ultimate goal of our division is to attract top talents from all over the world to join us together and establish a first-class music scheme in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area of China.
