The International Computer Music Conference 2023 will be held in Shenzhen, China, from October 15th to 20th, 2023. It will be hosted by the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hongkong, Shenzhen and the International Computer Music Association. The ICMC is the largest and most important international academic conference in the field of computer music. It is held annually in different countries around the world, and it has been held for 47 years since 1974. As an innovative academic platform, which integrates music, art, culture, science, technology, and other disciplines, the ICMC has received extensive attention in the music and technology community and music industry thanks to its academic quality and leading role. The world’s most active computer music practitioners and scholars will be gathering in Shenzhen, presenting the latest compositions and research results in dozens of concerts, exhibitions of installations, paper presentations and new releases in the music technology industry. They will explore future creation and research of computer music. They will also discuss the new directions in the music and technology field.

ICMC 2023 Theme: The Sound of Changes

In traditional Chinese philosophy, the concept of change often refers to the interchange between motion and stillness, which symbolizes the growth and essence of things. With this year’s conference theme, The Sound of Changes, we are going to reflect on the relationship between computer music’s fundamental concepts and its various forms, ponder the significance of classic theories and classic works, explore the essence of computer music, and discuss how to meet the challenges and opportunities in this rapidly changing cultural, social, and technological environment.

Call for Submission

ICMC 2023 invites submissions of music works, papers, installations and demos from the worldwide composers and musicians. This conference will be presented in hybrid format, which means all the sessions will be presented online and in-person.

Submission Rules

• The call is open to all regardless of gender, nationality, age, religion and career or majors, etc.
• Application Form must be completed in English, paper submissions should be completed in either English or Chinese.
• All submissions should be anonymous.
• There are no submission fees. However, if selected, you must register and attend the conference.
