Ms. Angel Hiu Ying LEUNG

Angel Hiu Ying LEUNG is currently a faculty of the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. Born and raised in Hong Kong SAR, Angel is a credentialed music therapist (USA and Canada) and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit music therapist (NICU MT). Upon receiving her bachelor’s degree majoring in music at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Angel furthered her studies in music therapy in the United States and received her master’s degree in music therapy from Western Michigan University (WMU) with first-class honors.
Angel is the first Hong Kong SAR music therapist to be published in a first-tier peer-reviewed professional music therapy journal and is a frequent speaker at numerous national and international conferences about her expertise in international music therapy issues. In addition, Angel was invited to guest lecture at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Baptist University respectively. Furthermore, Angel was invited to share her expertise at TEDxHK and Hong Kong Arts Festival – No Limits, which made her the first credentialed music therapist in the area to speak at an event of such scale.
Throughout her years as a music therapy professional, Angel has worked with a wide range of clientele, ranging from preschool children with speech delay to geriatric patients diagnosed with dementia, in various settings. In her clinical work, she has collaborated with other healthcare professionals, including occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech and language pathologists, psychologists, doctors, and nurses.
Angel is one of the first credentialed music therapists with extensive overseas clinical experience upon returning to Hong Kong SAR, and currently, an active clinician working with various organizations and clientele in Hong Kong SAR. She is the co-founder of the Institute for Creative Arts Therapy (HK), a lecturer at Hong Kong Baptist University, HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education, Caritas Institute of Higher Education, University of Melbourne, and St. Paul University Manila, and one of the authors of the music therapy books Clinical Decision-making in Music Therapy: Case Studies and Music – not that simple: music therapy case sharing.
