Dr. Ming ZHAO
Lecturer
Dr. Ming ZHAO is currently serving as a lecturer at the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. She is a pianist and a member of Hong Kong Musician Association.
Born into a family of musicians and Ph.Ds, she began studying piano from her uncle at the age of four. She attended the Manhattan School of Music majoring in piano performance and completed the four-year undergraduate program in two years. She continued to study at the Manhattan School of Music for a master’s degree in piano performance and graduated with a GPA of 4.0. During her D.M.A. study of piano performance at Pennsylvania State University, she also served as the teaching assistant of the piano department and offered weekly piano lessons for undergraduate and graduate students. She completed her doctorate in only three years and obtained the highest rating in the final defense.
As a pianist, she has performed in multiple piano recitals, chamber recitals, lecture recitals, organ concerts and harpsichord concerts in Greenfield Hall (New York), Christi Catholic Church, Penn State Recital Hall, and St. John Lutheran Church, etc. She has won multiple prizes in international piano competitions including the 13th Hong Kong (Asia Pacific) Piano Competition and Hamburg International Klavier Wettbewerbs, etc. After receiving her master’s degree, she served as a piano faculty in colleges and universities and received the “Excellent Guide Teacher Award” as her undergraduate students earned multiple first prizes in piano competitions. Her publications include “The Development and Inclusiveness of Serial Works — Barber’s Nocturne”, “Contrast and Unity in the third Movement of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 2”, etc.
