Biography

RA LEE, a faculty member of the School of Music, CUHK-Shenzhen, is an internationally acclaimed cellist known for her profound musicality, technical mastery, and dynamic stage presence. She has performed in prestigious venues such as the Wien Musikverein, Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, and Mendelssohn-Haus, establishing herself as a versatile soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer.

She studied at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (Singapore), Hochschule für Musik Hannover, and Mozarteum University Salzburg, training under renowned cellists Tilmann Wick and Giovanni Gnocchi. She has also received masterclasses from artists such as Ralph Kirshbaum and Claudio Bohórquez, further enriching her artistry.

As a soloist, RA LEE has appeared in major cities across Europe and Asia. She made her concerto debut at the age of 18 with the Singapore NAFA Orchestra, performing Beethoven's Triple Concerto. She has won top prizes in international competitions, including the Gisborne International Competition (New Zealand), the YSTCM String Competition (Singapore), and the Schoenfeld International Music Competition (Hong Kong, China).

A passionate chamber musician, she made her trio debut at the historic Mendelssohn-Haus, receiving critical acclaim. Since then, she has actively performed in various chamber ensembles, including piano trios and string ensembles, collaborating with world-renowned musicians such as Renaud Capuçon and Roman Simovic (Concertmaster of the London Symphony Orchestra).

Her orchestral career includes positions with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz and Göttingen Symphony Orchestra, where she served as 2nd solo cellist. She has also participated in major orchestral projects, including recordings of Bruckner symphonies with the Philharmonie Festiva Orchestra in Germany. 

Currently, RA LEE is actively performing in South Korea and across Europe, engaging in solo recitals, chamber music performances, and orchestral projects, while continuously expanding her artistic horizons.
