Mr. Robert Smith
Lecturer
Robert Smith is currently a faculty (trumpet teacher) at the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. In 2013, he graduated with first-class honors from the Royal Academy of Music, London.
He has performed with major orchestras from a young age beginning with renowned youth orchestras, including the City of Birmingham Symphony Youth Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, and the European Union Youth Orchestra as principal trumpet. He went on to freelance with the London Symphony Orchestra, CBSO, Philharmonia Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Opera, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. He had auditions with the LSO, Scottish Opera, and the RSNO. In 2015, he won a position in the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra where he continues to work today.
Robert is extremely dedicated to chamber music having been a member of the brass quintet, Total Brass with fellow musicians from the Royal Academy. The ensemble was Leverhulme Chamber Music Fellows of the Royal Academy of Music (2013/14) and winners of numerous accolades including the Tunnel Trust Award (2014/15) and Park Lane Group Award (2013/14). They performed concerts and tours UK-wide including for the British Royal Family, featured on BBC Radio 3, and provided numerous masterclasses and education concerts. He continues this practice as a member of the HK Phil Brass ensemble.
He has a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music (LRAM) teaching Diploma and in 2023 he was made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) for alumni who have distinguished themselves in the music profession and made a significant contribution in their particular field.
