Mr. YUAN Fangqixiong
Lecturer
YUAN Fangqixiong currently serves as a Collaborative Piano faculty at the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. Born in Tianjin, China, he has developed a deep interest in music since childhood. At the age of 12, he began his piano studies with Associate Professor Zhao Yang, Artistic Director of the Orchestral Department of Tianjin Conservatory of Music. In 2012, he was admitted to the Tianjin Conservatory of Music, where he perfected his technique and musicianship. During his time there, he was mentored by Zhao Junling, Ling Han, Prof. Lv Xiaoliang, and Associate Prof. Chen Lin. In 2013, YUAN Fanqixiong left the Tianjin Conservatory of Music to study with Mag. Huihui Weng-Skweres at Prayner Conservatory of Music and Drama in Vienna.
In 2015, YUAN Fanqixiong was admitted to the world-renowned University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna to study piano education with Univ.-Prof. Mag. Sibylla Joedicke, with a minor in collaborative piano. In 2019, YUAN Fanqixiong was admitted to Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna, and studied to obtain a Master’s degree in Vocal Accompaniment for Song and Oratorio, under Univ.-Prof. Mag. Ralf Heiber and KS.Univ.-Prof. Mag. Birgid Steinberger. In 2020, he attained a Bachelor’s degree and graduated with the highest achievement (Sehr Gut mit Auszeichnung). In 2021, he graduated with the highest score for both his thesis and graduation concert and was awarded his Master’s degree. During his studies, he has been taught and inspired by Prof. Norman Shetler, Prof. Paul Badura-Skoda, Daniel Johannsen, Prof. Marcelo Amaral, Dr. Carolyn Hague, KS Prof. Linda Watson, and other masters. From February 2022 to January 2023, YUAN Fangqixiong served as an accompanist staff for vocal, violin, and oboe in the Music Performance Department of the Art College of Renmin University of China.
In November 2019, together with alumnus Hou Xinzi, YUAN Fangqixiong participated in a lecture concert, Musik als Lebenselixier–Einfest Für eine Konzertkünstlerin, sponsored by University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and sung by Beatrix Borchard, a professor at University of the Arts Berlin, in memory of the 200th anniversary of Clara Schumann’s birth. In this concert, Clara Schumann’s art songs were successfully performed, and the whole concert was recorded and preserved as an important archive in the school media database. In March 2020, YUAN Fangqixiong performed the Austrian premiere of the new work “Chapter 13” by Agata Zubel, a Polish composer and mezzo-soprano singer, in the prestigious Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein (The House of The Vienna Music Association). In September 2020, YUAN Fangqixiong collaborated with Ghazal Kazemi, a mezzo-soprano of the renowned Wiener Volksoper. The DUO stood out from more than 300 pairs of contestants and was selected for the 12th Internationaler Wettbewerb für Liedkunst - Hugo Wolf Liedwettbewerb Stuttgart. Although unfortunately, they were forced to pull out from the competition because of the pandemic. YUAN Fangqixiong has rich experience in vocal music and works well with singers of all vocal parts on the stage to perform art songs by a variety of composers, including Wolf, Strauss, Schubert, Schumann, Duparc, Debussy, Poulenc, Brahms, Berg, Finzi, etc.
