Teachers' Remarks IV | Shucong HE: A Good Performance Resonates Across Time and Space
Behind every note on paper, whether classical or contemporary, are living people and lives! A good performance must transcend the notes and resonate across time and space. — Shucong HE
The "Art Lighthouse Project" embarks on a new chapter, with esteemed faculties from across divisions joining this season's Teachers' Remarks IV interview series. This edition features distinguished faculty members who bring profound insights, accomplished backgrounds, and inspiring musical talent to the forefront of music education. Their words of wisdom and experiences will motivate students to explore the vast world of music and find their own direction.
"Being with art and music means we are never alone. On the one hand, we have an eternal spiritual home; on the other, every hardship we face in life has already been confronted and overcome by great artists — these artists are our kindred spirits.
For a musician, the most important thing is whether we are truly satisfied with our performance on stage, deep down. It has nothing to do with others. I believe that this satisfaction comes from how much we give, whether our efforts are sincere, wholehearted, and without reserve—playing with all our passion and energy."
In this episode, we are thrilled to invite Prof. Shucong HE, Assistant Professor (Teaching) of Strings, Wind, Brass, and Percussion at the School of Music, CUHK-Shenzhen. Prof. HE shares his unique perspectives on how young people can cultivate a positive and healthy worldview and set of values. Drawing from his own experiences, he talks about his journey as a young musician, and how he persisted on the musical path and overcame various challenges. Additionally, he offers insightful thoughts on how young musicians can strike a balance between tradition and innovation. Let's hear what he has to say!
