Ms. Yiqiu CHEN
Lecturer
Yiqiu CHEN currently serves as a Lecturer at the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. She holds a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, and a Master of Music from the Yale School of Music. Ms. CHEN has worked with world-class artists such as Valery Gergiev, Yujia Wang, Leonidas Kavakos, Marin Alsop, Brentano, and Ying Quartet, as well as members from the Vienna Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera. Ms. CHEN is a Lincoln Center RWS artist. Her former teachers included Professor David Ying from Eastman School of Music and she was among the last students of Professor Aldo Parisot at Yale School of Music.
Festival highlights include appearances at the Grafenegg Music Festival in Austria, Grieg Festival in Norway, Pacific Music Festival in Japan, National Repertory Orchestra and the Colorado College Festival in Colorado, Bravo Music Festival in Minnesota, and Beijing International Music Festival in China.
Ms. CHEN won first prize at the National Repertory Orchestra Concerto Competition in 2015, in the same year she was also the winner of the Eastman School of Music Concerto Competition. In 2016, she graduated from Eastman School of Music with high honors, and in the same year, she won the Peter Salaff Chamber Music Award.
Ms. CHEN has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Minnesota Bloomington Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Austin Symphony Orchestra, and the National Repertory Orchestra among numerous others.
From 2018 to 2023, Ms. CHEN has been a full-time cello faculty and artist in residence at Vanke Meisha Arts Academy in Shenzhen. Ms. CHEN is a prominent teacher and has led her students to victories in competitions such as the "Golden Classical Music Awards" International Competition in New York, where her student was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall. Ms. CHEN's pedagogical methods emphasize strengthening cello techniques, as well as using technology and recordings to maximize students' learning abilities. Ms. CHEN's students have gotten offers from world-renowned conservatories including the Royal College of Music in London, Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Indiana Jacob School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, Eastman School of Music, Yehudi Menuhin School, etc.
Ms. CHEN is a passionate chamber musician and has been on a world tour as a Lincoln Center stage artist. She is also the creator and cellist of Trout Quartet, which was signed by Wu Management — one of the most prominent music management companies in the world. Trout Quartet has been invited to perform in the most important venues around the entire China and has received good reviews from media and other social platforms.
